Digestive System
Major Functions:
- Ingestion which is the process of literally eating food
- Propulsion which is moving the food along he digestive tract. contractions and relaxations of smooth muscles pushing food down the esophagus
- Secretion of digestive enzymes and other substances liquefies, adjusts the pH of, and chemically breaks down food
- Mechanical digestion which is just breaking down foods physically to smaller pieces (chewing)
- Chemical digestion which is just chemicals breaking down food into smaller chunks as well
- Absorption is the movement of molecules from digestive tract to blood and lymph vessels. Basically just getting nutrients and transporting them.
- Defecation... Yes, that means going to the bathroom.

Transformation Path:
- First the food is broken down mechanically in mouth
-Then it's pushed down esophagus into the stomach
- From there the food is broken down chemically in stomach and the nutrients are absorbed
- Now the food is a clumps of nastiness
- It will then be pushed into the small intestine where it is compressed and processed into feces
- Lastly it is pushed into the large intestine where it will be pushed out of the anus

Digestive System Working With Other Systems?
- An example of this system working with another system is when we go to the bathroom, that is us using the excretory system which the digestive system moves all that waste to specifically.
Questions:
- What is the path of food through the digestive system?
- What's the difference between mechanical and chemical digestion?
- How long does it take for food to get through the system entirely?
- What other system is the liver associated with other than the digestive system?
