Nervous System
Major Functions:
- Transmit messages to body
- Receive messages from body
- Base unit of nervous system are neurons which send messages through action potential

Diagram and Labeling a Neuron
Dendrite- Short branched extensions of a nervous cell that receive impulses from other cells at synapses
Cell Body- contains the nucleus Nucleus- Controls the cell itself Myelin Sheath- Insulates the axon/ protects the axon Nodes of Ranvier- is the gap between the Myelin Sheaths Axon- where action potential occurs. this is wheret eh message is transmitted/ transported to terminal branches and to next neuron Terminal branches- Little extensions at the end of the axon that sends the message into the synapse to the next neuron Synapse- Space between neurons where messages are sent |

Working With Other Systems?
- This system works with the integumentary systems because our nerves are in the epidermis and when we feel touch neurons fire up the nervous system and back to the point of contact on our skin to make us feel sensation
